  1. Does residential status impact taxation?

    Yes. The scope of taxation is dependent on the residential status of the person.

    For,

  • Residents – Global Income (i.e., income earned in India and outside India) is taxed in India
  • Non-residents – Income earned/accrued and/or received in India is only taxed in India

2. How to determine the residential status?

The residential status of individuals is determined based on the number of days of stay in India during the previous year and preceding previous years.

3. I’m a citizen of Singapore, can I still be considered a resident of India?

Yes. A person can be a citizen of another country and still be regarded as a resident of India (for income tax purposes) if he satisfies the conditions for a resident. Similarly, a person can be a resident (for income tax purposes) in 2 or more countries at the same.
